As
September arrives and the National Convention concludes, we are excited to
share details about our innovative programs for the year. Thank you to everyone
who participated by sharing photos on Photocircle!
It
is important to remember that not every member has access to a computer,
internet, or a cellphone capable of texting and receiving messages, nor may
they know how to use these features. Many of us rely on technology in our daily
routines and may overlook that there is a generation who did not grow up with
computers, email, or social media. These members risk being left out of our
communication network.
With
the discontinuation of our printed VFW Auxiliary Magazine, some members have
lost a valuable connection to our organization’s activities. We must make a
concerted effort to ensure every member remains informed and included,
especially regarding events and updates within your post and auxiliary.
Do
you know how many of your members lack access to the internet, email, or text
messaging? Please take the time to find out, so you can develop effective ways
to keep them informed. As fall approaches and we prepare for seasonal
activities leading into the holidays, clear communication with your members and
community is essential.
This
September let us identify the members in your auxiliary who do not have access
to digital communication and find creative ways to keep them updated on local
auxiliary news and dedicated events.
Consider
organizing telephone trees, printed newsletters, or even postcard reminders for
upcoming meetings and activities. Face-to-face conversations, a quick note in
the mail, or outreach through local community centers can bridge the gaps where
technology does not reach. You might even invite tech-savvy members to
volunteer as communication liaisons, helping those less familiar with digital
tools stay connected.
By
fostering these personal connections, we not only strengthen our auxiliary but
also honor the diversity of experience each member brings. Let us ensure that
no one stands apart from the fellowship and information that make our
organization strong. Your creativity and commitment to these efforts will help
every member feel valued and engaged as we move forward together into a new
season.
You might consider utilizing local newspaper activity sections, or contacting radio and television stations, many of which offer free community announcements
